FAQs

Navigating Medicare can feel overwhelming, but at ARK Health Advisors, we’re here to simplify the process. Below are some of the most common questions we receive from our clients. Whether you're new to Medicare, looking to change plans, or unsure about coverage options, these answers will help you make informed decisions with confidence.

What are the different parts of Medicare?

Medicare is divided into four parts:

  • Part A – Covers hospital stays, skilled nursing care, and hospice.

  • Part B – Covers doctor visits, outpatient care, and preventive services.

  • Part C (Medicare Advantage) – Combines Parts A and B and often includes prescription drug coverage and additional benefits.

  • Part D – Covers prescription medications.

Is Medicare free?

Medicare is not entirely free. While most people don’t pay a premium for Part A, there are monthly premiums for Part B, Part C (Medicare Advantage), and Part D (prescription drug coverage). Additional out-of-pocket costs such as deductibles, copays, and coinsurance may also apply.

Do I have to enroll in Medicare as soon as I turn 65?

Not necessarily. If you’re already receiving Social Security benefits, you’ll be automatically enrolled in Medicare Part A and Part B. If not, you’ll need to sign up during your Initial Enrollment Period (IEP), which starts three months before your 65th birthday and ends three months after. If you’re still working and have employer coverage, you may qualify to delay enrollment without penalties.

Does Medicare cover dental, vision, or hearing services?

Original Medicare (Parts A & B) does not cover routine dental, vision, or hearing care. However, many Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans offer these benefits, including coverage for eye exams, dental cleanings, hearing aids, and more.

How do I know if my prescriptions are covered?

Each Medicare Part D and Medicare Advantage plan with drug coverage has a formulary (list of covered drugs). It’s important to review the formulary before enrolling to ensure your medications are included. We can help you compare plans to find the best option for your prescription needs.
